HOW SUSTAINABLE IS THE ECO-SCHOOLS SHOW?

We are committed to tackling sustainability issues to help improve the environment and
because of that we also want the Eco-Schools Show to be as sustainable as possible.

Here are some of the things we are doing to reduce the show’s impact on the environment:

General
  • In the two years that the Eco-Schools Show has been running it has been supported by a number of local authorities, who provide transport to school groups attending the show and reducing journeys by car.

If you are interested in providing transport to the Eco-Schools show this year, please email the Eco-Schools Team

  • Every year schools are encouraged to bring “zero waste” packed lunches for pupils to prevent wastage

  • Recycling bins for paper, plastic and glass will be provided around the venue for use by exhibitors and visitors to the show

The Venue – Exec Peterborough, East of England Showground

We are delighted to be holding the Eco-Schools Show at Exec Peterborough who place great importance on sustainability at their events. Here are some of the measures Exec Peterborough have in place to reduce their impact on the environment:
  • The Exec Peterborough offices recycle paper, cardboard, printer cartridges, stamps and envelopes

  • Old computers are sent for dismantling so parts may be used again

  • Paper used for events leaflets is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified

  • Staff are encouraged to be responsible green citizens

  • The kitchens recycle cardboard, glass and oil

  • Food produced is seasonal and sourced from local farmers to reduce food miles and only fair-trade coffee is used

  • Liquid soaps are used to prevent wastage

  • There is a bus stop outside the venue to assist in the use of public transport and Peterborough’s mainline railway station is just 15 minutes away

  • Manure from agricultural shows is collected, stored and used as a fertiliser on the grounds the following year

  • 200 tonnes of organic compost are produced each year!

Comtec Presentations Ltd

Comtec Presentations is the exhibition shell-scheme and audio-visual supplier for the Eco-Schools Show. The company’s commitment to reducing their impact on the environment was key in Keep Britain Tidy’s decision to choose them as a main supplier. Below demonstrates their commitment to sustainability:
  • Comtec recently replaced a number of vehicles with more efficient models to reduce carbon emissions. It also increased the size of a number of it’s trucks, replacing smaller ones to reduce the number of vehicles being taken out to events

  • Comtec has been dedicated to recycling waste paper wherever possible for a number of years and each office has designated recycling points

  • Set designs have also been recycled wherever possible which has reduced their requirements for raw materials; any raw materials they do use are sourced from suppliers providing renewable products

  • In 2008, Comtec’s media department changed print suppliers. As part of the agreement with their supplier every time they use FSC certified papers or recycled papers for printing jobs, one English Oak Tree is planted in the name of Comtec Presentations at Dairy House Farm, Somerset.

  • In a bid to reduce the amount of paper used unnecessarily, the company has only been providing clients with ‘paperless quotations’. Hosted securely in personalised client log-in sections, each client has the chance to view all of the visuals, proposals and any media such as music or video online giving them the option to print each if needed.
